As a musician, and son of Grammy-nominated jazz trumpeter, vocalist and producer, Dr. Brice Miller Sr., I have had the opportunity to perform with an amazing assembly of distinguished musicians since I was eight years old. My performance highlights have included, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Satchmo Festival, French Quarter Festival, private events and performing with Grammy award winning St. Augustine alumnus, Jon Batiste.

I also performed for Louisiana Governor, John Bel Edwards, per his request, alongside my father, for Louisiana’s COVID-19 vaccination lottery press conference, at the state capital building.

I have also studied Pro-Audio and studio engineering for several years with award-winning educator and producer, Dr. Daryl Dickerson (Ellis Marsalis Center for Music) and at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage School of Music. These skills proved vital during the pandemic shutdown, as I began working with a wide range of clients to produce digital content, virtual concerts and social media campaigns. When available, I continue to provide my talents for various virtual and digital projects, including Niagara Jazz Festival’s (Canada) virtual concert series, Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, The New Orleans Music Company and the St. Aug film and media club.

⚽️ SHOOTING MY SHOTS!

Since age three, I have been an avid soccer player. Currently I play competitive travel soccer with Louisiana Fire. My primary positions are defender and forward, both which I excel at skillfully. For a while I wanted to become a professional international soccer player. I do plan on attending a college that has a competitive soccer program.

FEATURED ON CBS NEWS’ 60 MINUTES: A father and son talk about their family tradition at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans.

My father and I were feature on CBS NEWS’ 60 Minutes (2021 and 2022), “Best Band in the Land,” episode, that focused on our schools famed marching band, navigating the Covid-19 pandemic, dealing with loss, and being resilient. For me, being able to share my dad’s story, discuss our family legacy at St. Aug, and represent our school and our family for the entire world to see was scary, but motivational. The film crew came to our house to film, including my dad and I worked on cars, teaching me to drive (in a 1979 Trans Am) and me doing virtual school. This episode was airing a whopping three times (3x’s), the top repeats airings in 60 Minutes history.

🕵🏾‍♂️ LOOKING TO THE FUTURE, MY COLLEGE FOCUS

Business, Marketing and Film. Those three are the main topics I am currently considering majoring and studying in college, though that could shift a bit as my experiences continue blossoming throughout my senior year. However, my college interest will include some combination, based on what makes best sense for post-graduation professional opportunities.

Business has always been big in my family and in my life. Entrepreneurship plays a big role in me wanting to study business. My father owns his own entertainment business (The New Orleans Music Company), a business he started as a junior at St. Augustine High School. This has always inspired me to start my own business and I know attending esteemed college will help me achieve my goals.

Photography was my first passion for business. It taught me the road to business and how there are multiple  business routes. Business plays a big role for me. It’ll continue to help with math skills and communication skills and without communication things can be hard for some.

Marketing plays a big role with the route of business that  I’m taking, so studying  Marketing plays a big role for me. I use marketing everyday, for my photography, for my dad’s business for school and the list goes on. Marketing plays a big role not only for me with my business but also with the outside world. Film has always played a big role for me. In school and out of school. Film has been part of my life forever. It all started at a center called “The Ellis Marsalis Center.” My father first put a camera in my hand at the age of 7 and since then I’ve been in love with the art of film and photography.

All three of these categories play important roles for my social life and business life and also pursue the way of business for what I want to achieve. More than money, I want to live a life doing what I am most passionate about.

My older sister, Milan Miller (age 26) is currently a producer for ABC NEWS LIVE in New York and totally inspires me. As a Posse scholar and full scholarship recipient to BARD College, she has worked for entertainment and news stations since she was 19, writing and producing stories. She’s also a Google scholar. She has always been an inspiration for me because she is the main reason I wanted to pursue studying film. Recently, my oldest sister, Brionne Miller (age 28) has become the daytime news producer for WCBI NEWS in Columbus, Mississippi. Apparently, media, film, broadcasting, marketing, photography, digital media… it runs in our blood.

I am also very passionate about education. I am passionate about entrepreneurship. I have been blessed to accomplish so much while still in high school. I am excited and looking forward to my next life chapter, as a college student. But first, I have nine months to continue growing, learning, achieving and prospering as a high school senior (honors), and of course, as Drum Major for the Marching 100 Purple Knights Marching Band!
